English Courses Guides

Business Communication 1 (Beginners) - BC1

This is a practical course with lots of speaking. You will develop your confidence and skill communicating in English, especially using telephones to conduct business.

Pronunciation and stress are important when speaking, so you're going to learn a lot about English sounds and rhythm.

We'll study basic actions like how to answer a call and how to leave and take a message.

We will also study some more advanced techniques like how to make arrangements, check information and deal with dates, times and money.

If you hide under the table every time the phone rings, then this is the course for you.

Business Communication 2 (Advanced) - BC2

This course is about pushing your English ability a lot further. There are no textbooks or set dialogues, instead you will create materials and speak freely.

You will learn how to create sound bites, poster-based CM's and skills based CV's. You will also prepare a presentation and perform a job interview for a (fictitious) foreign company.

You'll have to think on your feet and be creative to survive this course. There's a lot of coursework and you'll be busy making things almost every week.

Test of English as a Foreign Language - TOEFL

TOEFL is a test for students who want to study in a different country. It tests the 4 fours skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking. This course is a preparation for that test.

In this course you will learn English useful for studying and living abroad. You will study technical English used in textbooks and lectures and everyday English used in student and university life.

The course will concentrate on listening, speaking and note-taking skills as well as strategies for success in the test.

TOEFL is very challenging. If you want to succeed, you will have to work hard and be self-motivated. This course is just the first step towards success.

Cultural Studies Courses

Comparative Culture - CC

In this course you can study how culture changes they way we look, speak, think and act. You can explore how human values make the world a more colourful place.

Cultural differences are often easy to see, but understanding the values that make them can be a lot more challenging.

In this course we study a number of key cultural ideas such as gender difference, group behaviour and national identity. We look at questions like, 'Are Japanese people more polite than Westerners?' and 'Are men more logical than women?'

This course is not only an introduction to other cultures, but an opportunity to study your own way of life. We often have to look inside ourselves to find the answer.

We have to be intellectual detectives and uncover the truth about ourselves.
